Award-winning rapper Ghetts, real name Justin Clarke-Samuel, has received a 12-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to causing the death of 20-year-old Yubin Tamang in a hit-and-run in north-east London. Tamang, a university student from Nepal, died two days after being struck on Redbridge Lane East in Ilford on the evening of October 18, 2025. The court at the Old Bailey heard that Clarke-Samuel was driving at speeds exceeding 60 mph in a 30 mph zone and failed to stop at the scene.
Judge Mark Lucraft KC imposed a driving ban of 17 years on Clarke-Samuel. He described the CCTV evidence as revealing a sequence of shocking driving incidents, culminating in the fatal collision.
Details presented by prosecutor Philip McGhee showed Clarke-Samuel had been drinking that evening, reportedly about one and a half times the legal limit. He initially claimed to have consumed three glasses of brandy with a meal.

In December, Clarke-Samuel admitted to causing death by dangerous driving and an additional dangerous driving charge.
